Squirrel SelfServe provides a complete portal solution using open-source components in accordance with Government Digital Service Design Principles. Incorporating fully-featured, rule-driven questionnaire development software which enables non-technical users to create online questionnaires, surveys or forms with a minimum of technical support. The workflow component then allows the submission of these forms to trigger a back-office process to assess and process the submitted information according to the required business process which can be edited using a graphical editor. The workflow can be configured to communicate between back-office staff via the portal or email, communication to the submitter is via email. Events can be used within the workflow to provide alerting such as for out-of-time applications, reminders or internal SLA exceptions. Dashboards provide back office staff and managers with status information and report important statistics.
From a portal user perspective the user, once registered, has access to the services they need via a single entry point. Information in the form of web content, documents in PDF format and links to other information sites can all be surfaced via the portal software. Content is accessible by, and responsive to, mobile devices in addition to PC browsers. Security is by password to the standards specified by www.ncsc.gov.uk and can also include 2-factor authentication if required. When filling in online information the user can stop at any point and save to resume at a later date, can save a PDF copy of their entry for their records and also get contextual online help.
